Julian cut his creative teeth at the age of 18 as an apprentice editor at the BBC, and then moved into music videos and commercials as an editor. Once he started directing music videos, he was mentored at Limelight by Steve Barron, who brought him into the commercial directing world, and ultimately, to the shores of the US in 1993. He joined Assembly in 1999, and has been here ever since, furiously creating intimate and gorgeous visual stories with a beating heart.
In 2001 he wrote and directed the feature film Trigger Happy starring Michael Weatherly and Rosario Dawson for the Independent Film Channel. Over the last several years, West has also made a number of award-winning shorts. Among them was Small Jeans, which was featured at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal. Julian is currently developing television projects as a writer/director for Michael Weatherly’s Solar Drive Productions, as well as executive producing a new indie feature, Alone, starring Ray Liotta and Sophie Turner.
