GUILLAUME DE FONTENAY

Award-winning commercial director Guillaume de Fontenay has helmed over 300 commercials for customers as varied as Milk, Pepsi, Bailey's, Honda, Dodge, Toyota, Kellogg's, Desjardins, Bell, Les Grands Ballets Montreal, FEMA, SAAQ and many more. He is represented in Quebec by Gorditos, in the rest of Canada by Suneeva, in the United States by Assembly Films, in France by Players Paris.

Guillaume de Fontenay started his career in theatre first as an assistant director and eventually as director. His versatility and his important theatre background with Carbone 14, O’Vertigo and his own theatre company Ex-Voto, give him a unique artistic vision and a meticulous directorial approach.

With 20 years of experience and over 400 days of shooting as a director, he has worked with some of the best teams around the world in countries such as South Africa, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Poland, Slovenia, USA and Canada. He is familiar with many of the best tools on set as well as in post-production.

He is recognized and represented internationally for his work. Over the years, his advertising work has been rewarded with some of the highest recognition in the industry such as The Ad Council Gold Bell, three Silver Screen Award at the US International Film & Video Festival, by one Grand Prix and many Golds at The Cassie Awards, a multitude of Prix Crea, an FWA, two Marcus Awards from the European Car Advertising Film Festival, and recently, by a Clio in New York and a Lion at Cannes Festival.

In addition to directing commercials, de Fontenay has also designed a large-scale exhibition “Warhol Live”, produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in partnership with the Andy Warhol Museum and the de Young Museum in San Francisco, one of the biggest Warhol retrospectives to date.

His short film The Return Triptych has been presented at Clermont-Ferrand and in different festivals around the world and sold to two television networks.

For the past 11 years, Guillaume de Fontenay as also been working on two feature films : Sympathie pour le Diable – Sympathy for the Devil, that is scheduled to be shot in November 2017 and Trapper, Le bras coupé, in development.
